Welcome to the Bluff River Trail — a gift to us all!
Whether you walk, jog, bike, horseback ride, stargaze, or meditate, the Bluff River Trail will awaken your senses, and connect you to this unique landscape, with its vistas, towering bluffs, remnants of ranches and farms, and of course the steady, calming San Juan River.
The non-motorized trail covers nearly 10 miles from Sand Island Recreation Area down to the river plain and then up-river through country that has been crisscrossed over millennia by Indigenous people, descendants of Mormon pioneers, and present-day settlers who have made their living as river runners, tour guides, farmers, ranchers, and small business owners.
The Bluff River Trail (BRT)—which provides the only public access to the San Juan River in Bluff, UT—is a project of the Bluff City Historical Preservation Association, a community-based, volunteer-powered organization. The BRT is the result of an extraordinary partnership with the Grand Canyon Trust and the Bureau of Land Management Monticello Field Office.
We welcome you to learn more by browsing this website. Then come and discover a beach, feel your heart soar as ravens swoop down from the magnificent bluffs, find peace in the river’s timeless gurgle and the smells of sage and earth. Experience the BRT for yourself, and become part of a living legacy of a history still in the making.
